Who we are
That is the question…who are we…does anyone really know? It is an existential question at the least. But we are…
Almost Anything Creations and Restorations is a story that starts well over 50 years ago. My Grandfather, the master maker and whittling artiste, spent hours with me showing me how he made miniature covered wagons, trains, wagon wheels, rocking chairs and other miniature furniture - all to a scale that would fit on a bookshelf, and all fully functioning.
My father was a fan of old tools - hand planes, hand crank drill presses, and the family anvil that belonged to my great, great grandfather (which I inherited and still use). He instilled in me a love of things made by hand.
Add to that a progressive middle school that started kids in woodshop in 5th grade. Add all of this together, and I have had a lifetime love of all things wood.
As the years have progressed, our home has been adorned with things built starting in that 5th grade class to the present. With additions from other family member contributions.
Requests from family and friends for items from my shop, and a particular ask from my daughter, a licensed therapist, to build her a sand tray table to hold the very heavy sand trays in her office, kicked things off.
I have gathered the artistic talent in my family and we have begun making things for the enjoyment of others. Some wood, some metal, some art and some very different things.
We are a “neuro-diverse” family, so we experience a variety of “super-powers” in our home - autism and ADHD foremost amongst them. That means our family gatherings are loud and creative. It also means that there is a massive amount of energy to do things a little differently, which we excel at!
Hence our motto -
Impedimentum Nos Non Definit, Nos Probat -
Our Obstacles Don’t Define Us, They Prove Us
That is the essence of Almost Anything - we don’t make everything, but we will try Almost Anything!
